Outreach

Co-Founder: DiversifySTEM at SIU (2019-present): The purpose of Diversify STEM is to support, advocate and celebrate diversity in STEM. We also aim to broadly promote and educate about ally-ship in STEM. Our group aims to provide a safe and professional group that creates an open and welcoming environment for attendees.  We firmly believe that diversity, in all its forms, provides novel perspectives, a richer work experience, and directly reduces discrimination.

Letters to a Pre-Scientist (2017-2019):  I participated in this wonderful program in which professional scientists exchange letters with young, aspiring scientists! (Grades 8-12). Visit their website to learn more: http://www.prescientist.org/

NYBG Volunteer Leader (2014-15):  Organized seed cleaning and preparation sessions for the Project Baseline seed collections & provided lectures on responses to climate change. New York Botanic Gardens.

Scientific Activity Coordinator, Rosedale Center (2014-15):  Successfully integrated STEM-based outreach programs that involves faculty, graduate and undergraduate students from Fordham U that will continue for years to come. These efforts result in scientific activities and lectures for young girls at the Rosedale Center in the Bronx .  LINK TO STORY about our efforts!

Ligo Project  Art of  Science (2014): I participated in the LIGO Project Art of Science.  This resulted in science-inspired art, displayed at a gallery in downtown NYC. The Franks Lab and LIGO.

School teacher workshop organizer (2009 & 2010): Created and demonstrated scientific teaching exercises for school teachers at the Future of Science Conference. Beckman Center, Irvine.
